HPG: 45 special operation police killed in Iğdır

In a statement about yesterday's action in Iğdır, HPG said Martyr Özer and Martyr Munzur guerrilla teams carried out a sabotage action in protest against the isolation imposed on Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the massacre attacks targeting the people of Kurdistan on September 8.

“A police convoy consisting of 2 armored vehicles, 1 minibus and a bus, was targeted by detonation of a large amount of explosives, which left all the four vehicles destroyed. 45 special operation police, including 3 chief policemen were killed in the action”, reported HPG, refuting the Turkish media reports that 13 police were killed here.

HPG stated that the Turkish army intervened the scene of the incident with 20 armored vehicles 30 minutes later, while Sikorsky type helicopters, civil vehicles and dozens of ambulances also arrived at the scene to remove the casualties. Cobra type helicopters opened random fire on the area, while intense reconnaissance flights were also carried out, said HPG.

HPG Press Office reported that the Turkish army launched an operation in Kirekor area of Iğdır the same day.

Regarding the actions conducted by guerrillas as part of the Marty Şervan Varto Initiative, HPG said a rocket attack by guerrillas targeted the police station in Avkevir (Taşlıçay) district of Ağrı at 19:30 on September 8.

While guerrillas retreated to their base following a clash that erupted here upon the response of police forces here, the exact number of casualties left by the action couldn't be verified.

Turkish troops at Golan (Göle) Regiment shelled Şenkaya and Martyr Sidar forested area in Erdexan (Ardahan) between 12:00 and 16:00 on September 8. Reconnaissance flights were also conducted over Gılidağ area from 17:30 to 19:30 the same day.

Guerrillas on the other hand ambushed and hit a Sikorsky helicopter airdropping soldiers in Kırekor area of Iğdır on September 7. While the helicopter retreated from the area, and most probably fell down later, the operation of the Turkish military in the area continues.

Kırekor area was also hit by Turkish airstrikes between 16:00 and 17:00 on September 7.
