Before the beginning of the operation by security forces, Governor of Diyarbakır declared a curfew at 12:00, which went into effect as of 13:00 local time.
HDP Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Ali Şimşek who is currently in Silvan said they are waiting in the municipality building due to the curfew.
“We talked to the district governor and conveyed our demand to go to the neighborhoods under police blockade. While our demand was rejected on the grounds of the operation, we hear gunshots from three neighborhoods.”
A reporter for ETHA News Agency, İsminaz Ergün, who is also in Silvan alongside a delegation of journalists, told that announcements of the curfew are being made by police from armored vehicles. “All the shops are closed anyway and gunshots are being heard from three neighborhoods. Helicopters are flying over the district. HDP Diyarbakır deputy Nursel Aydoğan talked to officials to demand permission for journalists to enter one of these neighborhoods, but we are not allowed either.”
One youth was killed and two people died of heart attack as a result of an operation launched by special operation teams in three neighborhoods in the district last week.
