Ayşe Efendi: Reconstruction of Kobanê needs world support

Kobanê Canton People's Assembly Co-Chair Ayşe Efendi said the cleaning in the war-torn town continued, remarking that they however didn't have the power to manage this alone.

Kobanê Canton People's Assembly Co-Chair Ayşe Efendi who has been in North Kurdistan to attend the World March of Women and 8 March activities in Mardin and Nusaybin has arrived in Malatya today on the invitation of Malatya Democratic Women's Platform.

Ayşe Efendi answered questions from reporters during her visit to the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Malatya office after a meeting with women affiliated to the Platform.

Talking about the war and women in Kobanê, Ayşe Efendi said that; “Kobanê was a small settlement but the dimension of the battle there was very large, it was a kind of 3rd World War. It was women who were aggrieved the most in the conflict in Kobanê. However, YPJ mounted a great struggle with which they set an example to the whole world.”

Ayşe Efendi said the cleaning in the war-torn town continued, remarking that they however didn't have the power to manage this alone. Calling attention to the extend of the disaster in Kobanê, Ayşe Efendi called for support for the reconstruction of the town.

Ayşe Efendi called on especially the youths of Kobanê who were forced to leave their lands due to the war to turn back, stressing that they needed everyone capable of working there.

Ayşe Efendi told that they did yet not want the women and children to return because of the lack of food, water and shelter resulted by infrastructural problems, adding; “They should stay where they are now. There is an ongoing work for a camp building in Kobanê, and we will issue a call for the return of women and children once the camp building is finalized in order to avoid leaving them facing the mentioned problems.”

Kobanê Canton People's Assembly Co-Chair also warned that returns to villages would also constitute a danger and risk of loss of lives unless the mines laid by the gangs in villages, and even in houses, are all cleared. She said they would also call for the people to return to their villages once this problem is eliminated.

Also putting emphasis on the importance of a fraternal living between Turks and Kurds, Ayşe Efendi urged the Turkish state to stop supporting and aiding the ISIS gangs.
