83 human shields detained in Batman, 10 remanded in custody in Urfa

While the AKP government maintains its insistence on war policies, dozens are detained on daily basis as part of the political genocide operations carried out to eliminate the Kurdish population in North Kurdistan. 83 people who acted as human shields in Batman were detained and 10 people were remanded in custody in Urfa.

BATMAN

Yesterday evening, dozens of people went to the scene of the operation launched by Turkish army in the rural areas of Sinemergê hamlet in Kelhasan village of Batman's Sason district in order to act as human shields for peace.

Batman Municipality co-chairs Sabri Özdemir and Gülistan Akel, Batman DBP Batman branch co-chairs Mehmet Candemir and Songül Korkmaz, HDP Batman branch chairs Bari Karaağaç and Rojda Sürücü also joined the crowd in the action to hinder probable clashes and casualties.

All the 82 human shields and DIHA reporter Engin Eren covering the incidents were detained by soldiers after their arrival at the scene and taken to Sason Brigade Command.

URFA

22 people, including 5 children, who had been detained in Viranşehir district of Urfa the day before, were taken to the courthouse yesterday after the completion of the procedures at police department. 10 of those detainees, including 2 minors, were formally arrested by the court on alleged grounds of “being member of an organisation” after their testimonies at the prosecutor’s office, and sent to Urfa E Type closed Prison.
