Tuğluk: Talks with Öcalan important

Speaking at Democratic Society Congress (DTK) 4th permanent council meeting, DTK co-chair and Van independent deputy Aysel Tuðluk said the recent talks with Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan were important and underlined that "this period should progress transparent to public. If the government wants to win the trust of the people, they should conduct these negotiations in good faith to ensure a real solution".

Referring to Turkish media's reports and debates on Imralý talks, Tuðluk said everybody should act with responsibility in order to avoid disappointments and frustration in the search for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem.

Tuðluk reminded of the previous Oslo talks which - she underlined - had some progress until the government ended the negotiation process because of the Silvan event [when 13 soldiers were killed in a guerrilla attack on 14 July 2011]. “The government launched political and military operations after the collapse of the Oslo talks and these were followed by the Roboski massacre. For this reason, people have no hope or trust left in the government which has apparently understood the role of Mr. Öcalan and once again started talks with him. We hereby say once again that concrete steps need to be taken during the ongoing process for the recognition of the right to mother tongue and provision of proper conditions of health, freedom and safety for Mr. Öcalan. The government killed ten PKK guerrillas on New Year Eve while talking about peace at the same time. I would like to ask the Prime Minister what has he gained by killing those people.”
