Tension high at Roboski action

Following the soldiers’ attack on the “Vigil for Justice for Roboski” action today, Roboski families threw their Turkish identity cards away.

The march to the massacre area has started from the village of Roboski following the one-day vigil in the village which was also joined by representatives of many political parties and nongovernmental organizations.

Roboski families and the delegation of political representatives and NGOs were stopped by soldiers before leaving the village where they were barricaded and attacked with TOMA vehicles and pressure water. The old and children members of victim families, falling down on the ground with the effect of pressure water, strongly reacted against the harsh intervention of soldiers and underlined that they will not give up fighting for justice until those responsible answer for the massacre of 34 people.

As the tension between families and soldiers lasted for a while, families took their identity cards from their pockets and threw them on the ground. “We are ashamed of being citizens of this country”, they said and stepped on the id cards to voice their reaction. Tension in the village continues.
