Negotiation Delegation spokesperson Sırrı Süreyya Önder said the main subject of their meeting with Kurdish leader Öcalan had been the Newroz letter. Önder said Öcalan had asked about the situation of exiles in Europe, and had told them he had met the new inmates sent to the island prison. Önder added that Öcalan had told them the ten per cent threshold would not be an obstacle.

Main item on the agenda: Newroz letter

Sırrı Süreyya Önder said they had spoken to Mr Öcalan for 4 hours and that the main topic of their conversation was the Newroz letter. “He gave us the letter, which we will share with the world in Amed on 21 March,” he added.

Next meeting will be with the monitoring delegation

Önder said they had informed Mr Öcalan of the latest developments regarding the monitoring delegation, adding that Mr Öcalan would forward his proposals to the state delegation this week. Önder said it was likely that the first visit after Newroz would be with the monitoring delegation.
Önder said Öcalan had asked about the legal situation of exiles in Europe and that they would forward detailed information to him soon.

Öcalan has met new inmates

Önder said that Mr Öcalan had had a long meeting with the new inmates sent to the island and that he had told the delegation that they would fill a significant void in the negotiation process.

A higher vote than ten per cent should be the goal

Önder said Mr Öcalan had made evaluations regarding the elections, saying he agreed with the HDP’s proposals and that he considered the threshold should be no obstacle. Headded that Mr Öcalan said a higher goal than ten per cent should be targeted and could be attained.

Önder added that Mr Öcalan had made some assessments regarding the region, and said that he and HDP Amed MP Leyla Zana would commence visits to South Kurdistan after Newroz.

The letter will be read out in Kurdish and Turkish

It has been reported that Mr Öcalan’s letter will be read out at the Newroz celebration in Amed in Kurdish and Turkish by HDP Group chair Pervin Buldan and HDP Istanbul MP and Negotiation Delegation spokesperson Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
