Mersin police has viciously attacked the crowd walking to the area where Newroz celebrations are taking place.

BDP Mersin deputy Ertuðrul Kürkçü, Akdeniz Municipality Mayor Fazýl Türk, BDP provincial co-chairs Musa Kulu and Aynur Aþan, as well as hundreds of people have been subject to police violence before Newroz celebrations began.

The people who had gathered in front of BDP Akdeniz district office were stopped with a police barricade while marching to the Týrmýl Area to join celebrations.

The mass was soon after attacked with gas bombs and pressure water. Many people were taken into custody. Kürkçü MP and mayor Türk were also among the people dragged on the floor and beaten by police. The police is still attacking the crowd.
