YPG fighter Richard Jansen from Holland who has been brought back to Europe for treatment for an injury he sustained in clashes in Sinjar said that: “I am happy to be a part of the honorable struggle waged by the Kurds. I was injured very early and I am sorry that my fight remained unfinished.”

Richard Jansen from the town of Schiadam in Amsterdam joined the ranks of the YPG (People's Defense Units) some four and a half months ago in support of the Kurdish struggle against ISIS gangs.

Jansen who took the name of Serdar Botan was wounded on the head after a mortar shell fired by ISIS fell on a YPG emplacement in Sinjar one and a half month ago. He has been taken to the German city of Dusseldorf for treatment in a plane that took off from South Kurdistan earlier today.

Jansen, wearing YPG uniform and a badge of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, was met at hospital by a large number of people including the representatives of the PYD (Democratic Union Party). Dutch press also covered the referral of the YPG fighter to Germany for treatment.

Jansen was later referred from Düsseldorf to Aachen where he has been taken under treatment at Uni clinic.

Speaking to ANF at hospital, YPG fighter Richard Jansen said: “I am sorry that I was wounded early and my fight remained unfinished. Yet, my heart is in Kobanê.”

Stressing that everyone must fight against the ISIS, Jansen continued: “I am happy to be a part of the honorable struggle waged by the Kurds. I hope President Apo gains freedom in the soonest time. Kurdistan stands in the middle and at the core of my heart.”

YPG fighter's father Leo Jansen, who said he was glad his son fought alongside the Kurdish people, also underlined that everyone should join the Kurds in their fight against the ISIS.
