Did the Turkish army give another soldier's body to Artuğ family?

Documents seized by guerrillas from a dead soldier in Geliyê Dostkî on 6-7 September reveal that the body belongs to company commander Tolga Artuğ.

Documents seized by guerrillas from a dead soldier in Geliyê Dostkî on 6-7 September reveal that the body belongs to company commander Tolga Artuğ.

Dozens of soldiers had been killed in Geliyê Dostkî area of Hakkari's Yüksekova district on 6-7 September. While guerrillas say the body of Tolga Artuğ was not reclaimed by the army and is still held by them, the documents revealed by guerrillas strengthen the suspects that the Turkish army gave another body to the Artuğ family.

A body said to be belonging to Tolga Artuğ was then handed over to the family and later laid to rest after the incident in Geliyê Dostkî area.

The documents seized by guerrillas from the slain soldier's pocket include medical reports, an incapacity report, certificate of no objection, laboratory results and some military papers.

TURKISH STATE DOESN'T RECLAIM THE BODIES OF SOLDIERS

Besides disapproving that Artuğ's body is still held by guerrillas, the General Staff has made no statements about his loss in the conflict in the area, which constitutes a kind of proof that the Turkish army is hiding the losses it suffered in the battle with guerrillas. In addition, the lack of any statement by the General Staff manifests that the Turkish army tries to cover up its negligence and scandals by not reclaiming the body of the lost soldier.

CASE ALSO MENTIONED BY KARAYILAN

People's Defense Center (HSM) Headquarters Commander Murat Karayılan also said in a previous interview that they held the body of a soldier killed in Geliyê Dostkî area. Karayılan said the body most likely belonged to Tolga Artuğ in line with the documents found on him, adding that Turkish state authorities, however, made no explanation on the issue. He stated that they could hand over the soldier's body to his family if the necessary procedures were undertaken.
