Demirtaþ: In 2013 we have to increase number of BDP municipalities
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) meeting started on 19 May with an agenda focusing on the evaluation of the current political process, organizational issues and organizational planning. Making the opening speech of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) meeting of provincial co-chairs, party’s co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ MP underlined that the target of the local elections in March 2013 should be to rise the number of BDP municipalities.
Demirtaþ put emphasis on the importance of provincial administrations for the party and pointed out that the BDP is giving a struggle along under poor conditions, with around seven thousand members in jail.
“It is manpower and self-sacrifice that have kept our organization, party and people alive in the face of the terrorism that the AKP government has imposed on us by using all means of the state”, said Demirtaþ and underlined that all pressures and operations are put into practice to prevent the Kurdish people from self-determination.
We will keep our struggle going to keep the promise we made to our people, remarked BDP deputy co-chair and pointed out that this struggle is also supposed to be organized and continuous to enable the liberation of other peoples as well.
“The main target of the AKP mindset is to disenable and silence Kurds in all territories as it is known very well that the civil rebellions in the Middle East will directly have an effect on the status of the Kurdish people as well”, added Demirtaþ and remarked that the AKP deliberatively maintains the monist nation state project to ensure the continuation of its power.
Underlining that there is a need for an ideological struggle against the reactionary and racist implementations of AKP, Demirtaþ said that the ideological organization and struggle of the Kurdish people should fight against the isolation policy and be an answer to the current process and AKP policies.
BDP co-chair continued drawing attention to Prime Minister Erdoðan’s statements targeting BDP municipalities and noted that one of the most prominent reasons for the ongoing political operations is to eliminate municipalities of the Peace and Democracy Party.
Demirtaþ ended reminding of the local governance conferences to be held in early June of this year with an aim to handle the problems of local governances.
