Demirtaþ: AKP has secret agenda for constitution
In an interview to daily Cumhuriyet paper, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ remarked that AKP government was acting in accordance with its own secret agenda concerning the new constitution.
Demirtaþ criticized the government for putting forward a discussion on the possibility of “Murat Karayýlan’s deputyship” as a pretext found to extend the deadlock concerning jailed deputies.
Referring to BDP delegation’s U.S.visit, Demirtaþ stated that the visit was useful in terms of removing the disinformation caused by the single-sided information provided by the AKP government.
Demirtaþ noted that the AKP government had a secret agenda concerning the new constitution and said that; “Although the demands for the new constitution have been evaluated for around seven months now, the AKP side doesn’t mention anything except for the presidential system and red lines. They never speak about the new constitution, which leads to a doubtfulness and suspicion. They on the contrary put forward a discussion on presidential system soon before the determination of main points for the new constitution. However, neither we nor the society put this kind of a discussion on the agenda. On the other hand, the presidential system that the AKP puts forward is a model that doesn’t comply with Turkey’s circumstances and carries the risk of leading to dictatorship within the scope of AKP’s mindset.”
Demirtaþ continued as follows referring to the deadlock concerning jailed deputies; “Although the AKP’s spokesmen at first had a positive look concerning jailed deputies, this attitude changed when their boss, the Prime Minister who is the only one making the decisions, didn’t agree with this idea. The AKP side is now trying to exclude itself from this issue by somehow changing the agenda and using Kandil as a pretext. However, the issue has got nothing to do with Kandil as the people there aren’t eager to be deputies at all. On the other hand, will a solution to be found in this respect not enable the people in Kandil to have the right to do politics? Will these people live on the mountain forever? Is this what they call solution?”
BDP co-chair also criticized the AKP government for defending a single religion for the country and remarked that this statement was a reflection of its subconscious. “All beliefs should be assured by the new constitution”, added Demirtaþ.
