BDP in Þemdinli say war not a solution to Kurdish issue

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in Þemdinli held a press conference to protest against the ongoing operations and clashes in the villages of Baðlar, Çem and  Rüzgarlý where people’s life is endangered by howitzer and mortar attacks by the Turkish army.

The press conference in front of BDP district office was joined by BDP deputies Özdal Üçer and Esat Canan, Yüksekova Mayor Ercan Bora, Þemdinli mayor Sedat Töre, BDP Hakkari deputy chair Rahmi Kurt, members of city council, members of Van branches of TUYAD-DER and MEYA-DER, Peace Mothers Initiative of Van and the people of Þemdinli.

Reading the press release on behalf of all participants, BDP Þemdinli district chair Cabbar Taþ pointed out that no favorable results have been obtained through the ways used for the last 30 years to end the Kurdish problem. Taþ said that; “The Turkish media is remaining silent and hiding the truth while the children of this country are killing each other. The armed forces of the Turkish state have been targeting villages and the people in Þemdinli in the scope of the operations they are conducting against PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party). Five villages have been evacuated completely and people have been deterritorialized as state forces are bombing villages in military operations.”

Taþ underlined that clashes and deaths will never bring to a solution and added that the Turkish state should recognize Kurds and their demands for a free life and a political status.

One other statement on ongoing operations in Þemdinli area was made by mayor Sedat Töre who pointed out that the currently ongoing operation is the longest and larges military operation in the history of the district which – he noted - is in a state of war at present.

Töre pointed out that nobody can receive any concrete and true information about the people from the villages that have been evacuated and closed to traffic by the army for the last nine days.

Remarking that the clashes area has been heavily surrounded by army because of the ongoing operations, Töre said that Þemdinli Municipality has established a help desk for the people who have been forced to leave their villages. “We will be working to meet the urgent needs and to provide necessary conditions for these people”, added Töre.
