TEV-DEM official: The key to solve Syrian crisis is democracy

TEV-DEM’s Medya Mihemed said Turkey did not succeed in dividing the peoples of Northern Syria.

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) held a meeting in the town of Til Hemis in Qamishlo. The meeting was attended by the region’s tribal leaders, local councillors and citizens.

The meeting took place at the Culture and Arts Centre where TEV-DEM executive Medya Mihemed talked about the latest developments in Syria.

Mihemed said that there are many sides fighting in Syria and most are actually fighting for their own interests. Their aim, said Mihemed, is to create chaos among the peoples in the region.

The TEV-DEM executive continued: "The Kurdish people and the peoples of Northern Syria have defeated all sectarian, chauvinist and nationalist issues and established brotherhood among all the peoples within the society’s different sections”.

Medya Mihemed remarked that the invading Turkish state targeted the democratic nation project by occupying Afrin and aimed at creating chaos among the peoples of the region.

However, said Mihemed, Turkey has not achieved its purposes and the resistance in and for Afrin continues.

"Idlib, Afrin, Jarablus and Azaz, Northern Syria and all of Syria must be liberated from the occupation carried out by the Turkish state and its mercenary allies”, said Mihemed.

The Kurdish people, said Mihemed ending her remarks, are not only fighting for their status. They are struggling for a system that embraces all the components of society.

"The key to solve the issues in the Middle East is democracy and the brotherhood of peoples".

The meeting ended with a questions and answers session.
