TEV-DEM: Allegations about talks with Syrian government unfounded

TEV-DEM said it supports dialogue and negotiation to solve Syrian crisis but that no talks have taken place.

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) Diplomatic Relations Centre released a written statement stating that allegations made about talks with the Syrian regime are unfounded.

The statement said:

"The Northern Syria people are the solution to the Syrian crisis; the struggle for a new, multi-colored and democratic Syria continues. At the outset, our people made a strategic decision to seek for a solution. All our regions have been attacked, but these assaults have not changed our stance, and we have continued to resist for our rights.

Despite the fact that our people and all sections of Northern Syria are the basis for dialogue and the means for a democratic solution, they have been excluded from the negotiations in Geneva and other initiatives. Despite this we continue to work for a democratic solution.

As TEV-DEM Diplomatic Relations Centre, we underline that we believe the basis for the solution is dialogue and to this end our people are working. The solution of the Syrian crisis can only be achieved through dialogue among all Syrian parties involved in the conflict.

Allegations about talks with Damascus government have been made, but they are unfounded. No dialogue has taken place so far. Our politics, solution projects, dialogues and democratic project activities are clear and on the table. If there were any talks or contacts with us, our people would know that.

Our people are ready to work for a solution in Syria. They won’t reject any talks as long as they are honest and serious. We do not find it wrong to work among Syrian parties on possible solutions and stability, and we reiterate that negotiations are the right course to follow. Until now, though, no official dialogue has taken place involving any of our institutions.”
