MSD Co-chair: Dialogue is the basis for a solution in Syria

MSD Co-chair Riyad Dirar said that the dialogue should be focused on resolving the Syrian war. He called on the Syrian state to give up its old practice and take a constructive stance.

The Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Riyad Dirar assessed the developments in the region in an interview with the ANHA news agency.

Dirar explained that the Syrian state is mistaken in seeing its control of the south of the country and the military movements as a success and warned that the Syrian state's forces would be heading towards other places after south.

“The Syrian government now has two options for the north and northeast of Syria: Either to fight with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) or to have talks with the MSD. Our only goal is to find a political solution. This is also the only peaceful way to settle the Syrian war. Peace talks without preconditions should begin”, Dirar said.

"Autonomous administration is doing a good job"

Riyad Dirar noted that the Democratic Autonomous Administration has produced great achievements in the service of the people of northern Syria. "It has provided peace in the region and looked after the refugees. In addition, the liberation campaigns continue. We strive to fulfill the demands of the people for a new constitution, for the establishment of a completely different, new political structure and the dissolution of the statist power system that dominates all of Syria", said Dirar.

MSD Co-chair criticized the absence of Northern Syrian figures in past negotiations and said: "The problem is not just the regime, there is also a problem with those who see themselves as opposition. The opposition has stayed away from all meetings in Geneva. The regime was able to develop a roadmap that suited its advantage. We are the third line. This line has developed as part of the struggle for liberation and led the fight against terror together with the international coalition. We have protected Syria from the terror of ISIS. The forces of the regime have left the regions to ISIS. We defended our territories and then liberated the places the regime had abandoned."

"To build a new Syria together, the regime must abandon its previous attitude"

Dirar then talked about the role of regional states in the Syrian crisis: "All regional and international powers are deriving benefits from the situation Syria is in. Each one of them plays their role with their own methods. We have carried out our work on the basis of joint decision. Our efforts are based on common interests. These projects are intended to build a new Syria. On this basis, we had meetings with the coalition. We believe it can act as a guarantor of a political solution."

MSD Co-chair concluded with the following words: "The project of democratic change is for all components and all parties in Syria. We must free ourselves from the pro-power mentality that plunges peoples into war. The forces of the regime must abandon their old stance and play a solution-oriented, creative role."
