Kurds celebrate Newroz across Northern Syria

Hundreds of thousands of Kurds and other folks in Northern Syria gathered to celebrate Kurdish New Year, Newroz today.

The Newroz celebrations throughout Northern Syria also became platform to protests Turkish invasion in Afrin.

Hundreds of thousands gathered together in Kobane’s Mishtenur Hill, Qamishli’s Himo village, Girke Lege’s Helaq village, Derik’s Beledi Stadion and central Tirbesipiye. Newroz was also celebrated in Serekaniye, Heseke, Dirbesiye, Til Temir. For the first time in the past 8 years Newroz was celebrated in Raqqa.

Speaking at the Newroz celebrations in Kobane, Member of PYD’s Central Committee Dilber Yusuf said that they dedicate this year’s Newroz to the people of Afrin who resisted Turkey’s invasion attack.

“We stood against cruelty and injustice before. Now we fight against Turkish fascism. This year’s Newroz will bring the end for Erdogan. We are right, we live in our land and no one can change this fact by moving us away from our land. Despite all the attacks, Afrin will win. We promised our people salvation and we will herald the victory in the near future” she said.

Kobane’s Executive Council’s co-chair Enwer Muslim vowed to make Turkey regret attacking Northern Syria and said “the solution of the crisis in Syria will only come true with our project. The freedom of Syria is not in the hands of those looters in Afrin”.

PYD’s co-chair Shahoz Hesen spoke at Newroz celebrations in Heseke. He stated that the resistance in Afrin continues and accused the international powers for paving the way for Turkish massacres by remaining silent over the invasion of Afrin.

The celebrations are expected to continue at night in all cities of the Northern Syria.
