Kobane celebrated 15 August guerrilla action

With the spirit of 15 August we will liberate Afrin, said the thousands who gathered in Kobane.

Thousands gathered at Martyr Egid Square in Kobane to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the 15 August 1984 PKK first guerrilla actions.

‘We will liberate Afrin with the spirit of 15 August’ said the banner hung in the square together with photos of the martyrs, YPG and YPJ flags.

The celebration included music by Koma Shehit Şilan from Dirbesiye Culture and Arts Council Movement.

Then, TEV-DEM executive Adil Hac Mihemed said that the Kurdistan Liberation Movement initiated a military offensive against the colonialists and blew a major blow to the dominant systems on 15 August 1984.

Kobane Kongreya Star executive Letifa Mihemed pointed out that 15 August represented a big step for women against thousands of years of slavery. The legacy of that step, she added, can be seen today, with women involved in every field of life.

Kevana Zêrîn and Laleş groups from the Baqi Xido Culture and Arts Center animated the celebration with their songs and music.

Poets Ferhad Merde and Mehmud offered a reading of their poetry.
