KDP withdraws its forces from Sinjar

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) withdrew its peshmerga forces from Sinjar and left its positions to Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

KDP forces withdrew from Sinjar centre and surrounding villages on Tuesday morning after talks with Hashd al-Shaabi. Sinjar is the second big city that KDP withdrew from after Kirkuk’s invasion on Monday.

According to local sources People’s Defence Forces (HPG), YJA Star and Sinjar Resistance Units forces are protecting their positions around the city and Mount Sinjar.

KDP withdrew from following positions: Sinjar city centre, Cement factory and Şebabît, Solax, Til Qesep, Hemedan, Tilbenat, Qinê, Sinûn, Cidalê, Heyalê, Domîz, Werdiya, Golat, Niyêniyat, Herdan, Zorava and Şerfeddin villages.

Hashd al-Shaabi forces now control most of Sinjar city centre.

KDP peshmerga withdrew from Sinjar without shooting a single bullet against ISIS on August 3, 1994. That led to the killing of thousands of Êzidîs.

Sinjar is the traditional hometown of Êzidî people. It’s also home to the Chermera temple, the most sacred place for Êzidî religion.
