Following the Turkish state’s invasion attacks, hundreds of thousands of people from Afrin have migrated to Shehba where the increasing heat has brought on various diseases. Heyva Sor a Kurd announced that they are running low on medicine stock, and called for support.

Following the invasion attacks by the Turkish state and their allied Al Qaeda ISIS and Al Nusra gangs, hundreds of thousands of people from Afrin migrated to the Shehba region after a historic resistance. The people continue their resistance under harsh conditions in the Shehba Canton and Afrin’s Sherawa district, but the coming summer months and the insufficient clean water, food and sanitation have brought on several diseases.

Heyva Sor a Kurd (Kurdish Red Crescent) is providing health services to over 175.000 migrants in the Shehba region and the villages of Sherawa, but they are having issues with medicine and treatment supplies. Heyva Sor a Kurd has opened 7 medical centers, 2 in Sherawa and 5 in Shehba, and serves at least 500 people every day. Heyva Sor a Kurd officials say with the summer heat starting, several diseases have emerged and their medicine supplies are running low, thus they are calling for medicine support.

“WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH MEDICINE”

Pharmacist Rim Karho from Heyva Sor a Kurd Afrin Branch administration stated that with the increase and spread of diseases, they are having issues in providing medicine and that they don’t have access to several they need: “The weather is getting hot, and several diseases have emerged. On top of that, there is insufficient clean water and food, which is another trigger. There are more people visiting our centers every day due to various diseases, but unfortunately we don’t have enough medicine. We are having trouble procuring medicine for many diseases.”

“WE NEED URGENT MEDICINE SUPPORT”

Kahlo called for medicine support and added: “We have said this several times before, these conditions are rife for diseases to take hold. With summer heat coming in, various diseases have emerged. We are worried for the coming days. That is why we are in urgent need of medication.”

“MIGRATING CITIZENS EXPERIENCE TRAUMA”

Heyva Sor a Kurd psychiatrist Mihemed Îsa stated that they are having trouble with medication and said: “There are over 175.000 people from Afrin here. On top of that, Shehba has a population of 80.000. Migrants here have experienced a great trauma. On top of the physical conditions, there are also mental issues present. But I can easily say that we have none of the medications used to treat psychiatric conditions.”
