Demo for freedom for Öcalan in Qamishlo

A torch march was staged in Qamishlo, Rojava against the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Hundreds of people from Rojava's Qamishlo city attended a march organized by the Rojava Youth Union to protest the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and demand his freedom.

The march began in front of Mimehed Shêxo Culture and Arts Center and young people with torches carried posters of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and YPG/YPJ flags. Protestors chanted slogans for the freedom of Öcalan and condemned the collaboration between Turkey and the KDP.

Speeches were made during the march to the Youth Center in Hilêliyê neighborhood. Rojava Youth Union (YCR) member Agiri Qamişlo stated that the youth will enhance the struggle against Turkish and AKP fascism, and said “Erdoğan should know that the Kurdish people will not remain silent on what he does to them”

Agiri emphasized that the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan aims to inflict a blow against Öcalan’s Democratic Nation project developed by the peoples of Rojava and Syria.

Lastly, Agiri stated that Turkey wants to rule over the region and create conflicts among the peoples. Demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the freedom of Öcalan as the march came to an end.
