Swedish MP: We must mobilize for Rojava

Left Party MP Daniel Riazat said the Turkish state aims to destroy the egalitarian, just and ecologist system in Northern and Eastern Syria and added: “we must mobilize to defend Rojava.”

Sweden’s Left Party MP Daniel Riazat said the Turkish government has increased the attacks against Southern Kurdistan and threats against Rojava recklessly to create a chauvinistic and nationalist atmosphere after their defeat in the local elections amidst the economic crisis.

“TURKEY COULD ATTACK”

Riazat said details of the deal between the US and Turkey on Rojava and Northern Syria is unknown and continued: “Maybe they chose to say different things due to their own interests. But I think this is a dangerous situation. I believe Turkey will try to launch an attack against Rojava. The US has ignored threats against Afrin and in the end didn’t speak out against Turkey’s invasion, as we have seen.”

“KURDS MUST ACCELERATE DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS”

Riazat said as Turkey is preparing for an invasion, Kurds and their allies must accelerate their diplomatic efforts: “But Rojava has very few coutnries it could rely on. All countries look out for their own interests. US is looking to cover its own interests as well. Their goal is not to help the Kurdish people, they don’t even mean to create stability in the region. They want to settle in the region, increase the number of their military bases and to spread to other areas in the Middle East.”

“THOSE WHO DEFEATED ISIS WILL PUSH BACK AN INVASION”

Riazat said the autonomous administration in Rojava is facing a difficult situation and added that he believes the Kurdish people will resist to the end against Turkey’s threats of invasion and a possible attempt: “The forces who defeated ISIS gangs will push back this threat of invasion too.”

“IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO STOP ASYLUM SEEKERS FOR EUROPE”

When asked what the European Union and the Swedish government would do in case of an attack against Rojava, Riazat said:

“For Sweden and the EU, commercial relations with Turkey and stopping the almost 5 milion refugees in Turkey from getting to Europe are more important. They wouldn’t want Turkey to enter Syria, but I don’t think they will take on a serious stance against it. They will condemn the invasion in words and statements but they won’t take concrete action to stop the invasion.”

“LEFT PARTY WILL STAND RESOLUTE AGAINST THE INVASION”

Riazat said the Left Party will always stand with the Kurdish people, and that the party objected to the invasion of Afrin and the attacks against Southern Kurdistan, and spoke about the party’s stance in case of a Turkish state attak against Rojava: “The Left Party will stand resolute against invasion attempts. We will take the matter to the parliament’s agenda. Our party’s foreign policy spokesperson will speak about Sweden’s weapons sales to Turkey in the coming days. We will ask for an explanation from the minister. We will take the matter to the EU’s agenda. Meanwhile, we will research what preparations the European Commission has made in case of an invasion attempt. To date, we have no information on what preparations they have made if any. But in any case, we will have a clear stance against a possible invasion attempt.”

“WE MUST FORM A WIDE MOVEMENT”

Riazat said that as the Turkish state increased threats against Rojava, a responsibility falls on the outside world, democratic forces and civil society: “We must mobilize to defend Rojava. We must mobilize trade unions, leftist organizations, women’s movements, feminists and even ecologists to defend the system in Rojava. Liberal and social democratic parties are reluctant to make this issue their own. We must force them from the grassroots. We must form a wide movement that will object to the invasion attempts that will create dangerous results.”

Riazat also pointed to Sweden arming Turkey through the weapons monopoly Saab. Riazat added that some parts the monopoly Scania sold to Turkey were used in the war: “In September, the weapons Sweden and Europe sold to Turkey will be brought to the public agenda. There will be several demonstrations in Sweden, Germany, the UK and other European countries to protest Europe arming Turkey.”

“ALLIES OF THE KURDISH PEOPLE WILL RISE UP AROUND EUROPE”

Riazat said the people of Rojava and Kurdish forces have the strength and consciousness to stop the Turkish invasion , and sent the following message for the peoples of Rojava: “Trust in yourselves, not foreign actors. Resist. You have come out on top through the darkest times. You have built a system never before seen in the world, a system where peoples live together freely. You must continue to defend the system. The coming years will be hard. But the Kurdish people’s allies will rise up everywhere in Europe.”
