Solidarity hunger strike by the Yazidis in Newroz Camp

Yazidi people in Newroz Camp started solidarity hunger strike with Leyla Güven.

Yazidi people in Newroz Camp have expressed their support to HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who has been on hunger strike for 72 days in Amed prison demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Thirty people from Shengal in the camp started a hunger strike on Thursday.

Zehra Shemo, one of the hunger strikers, described Leyla Güven as the symbol of free women and said: “We, the Yazidi women, will support Leyla Güven until her demand is met.”

Shemo condemned the isolation regime imposed on Öcalan and said: “We have adopted Öcalan's ideas. The Yazidis survived thanks to the ideas of Öcalan, and the fighters who followed his ideas saved women from ISIS.”

Hunger striker Hadi Mixeybir said: “We salute the revolutionaries and Leyla Güven resisting against the fascist Turkish state in prison. We will support them until the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan is lifted.”
