Rojava delegation met with French President Macron

The delegation that met with Macron included YPJ commander Nesrin Abdullah and North and East Syria Federation Co-chair Hamid al-Mihbash.

A delegation from the Federation of North and East Syria Autonomous Administration met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

According to a statement from the Élysée Palace, Emmanuel Macron has assured the delegation to continue to provide the Federation of and East Syria with active support in the fight against ISIS.

ISIS continues to pose a threat to collective security, so support is needed, in particular, for ISIS members and their families in captivity in northeastern Syria, said the French president. Macron also announced financial aid for the humanitarian needs and socio-economic stability of society in Syria.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on 1 April that France would provide € 1 million in financial support for the camps in northeastern Syria, notably the overcrowded Hol Camp.

The delegation that met with Macron included YPJ commander Nesrin Abdullah and North and East Syria Federation Co-chair Hamid al-Mihbash. Following the meeting with the French President, a press conference was held.

Al-Mihbash spoke in Arabic, which was translated by the PYD representative in France, Xalid Isa, into the French language. Al-Mehbash said that the Autonomous Administration needs support in the fight against terrorism and Macron has promised it. "The French President has also promised the Autonomy Board economic and reconstruction assistance."

The attacks of Turkey on northern and eastern Syria have also been discussed in the conversation, according to al-Mehbash. Macron stressed that there must be peace and stability on the border with Turkey. "We have been committed to good neighborly relations with Turkey since the beginning," al-Mehbash said.

Macron has spoken out in favor of continuing support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Responding to questions from journalists, al-Mehbash said the North East Syria Federation had relations with Russia and was open to talks with the Syrian government: "We keep all doors open for a transition to peace in the interests of the peoples of Syria."

Regarding the establishment of an international tribunal for ISIS members held in northern Syria, al-Mehbash said the issue was still under discussion: "We have made such a proposal to the international community and wish to see international lawyers involved, because many of the terrorists are coming from the foreign countries."
