Kurdish parties in Rojava condemn Turkish attacks on Bashur

Kurdish political parties in Rojava condemned the Turkish army’s attacks against Southern Kurdistan.

Administrators from the Kurdish political parties Democratic Left Party and Kurdistan Liberal Party in Rojava condemned the Turkish state’s attacks against Southern Kurdistan.

GEDO: THEY ARE TARGETING THE GAINS

Syrian Kurds Democratic Left Party Secretary General Salih Gedo said: “The ruthless attacks by the Turkish state against South Kurdistan (Bashur) are a part of the Erdogan-led AKP’s policy. Bashur is part of Kurdistan and part of the Iraqi state administration. The capital of this state is Baghdad. Erdogan has been attacking all four parts of Kurdistan, and has intensified his attacks in Rojava (West), Bakur (North) and Bashur (South) Kurdistan. This shows that their issue is not with Bakur alone, but with all Kurdish people. They want to destroy any and all Kurds, weaken them and leave them without a role, and thus achieve influence over Kurdistan as a whole.

When Kurds play a big role, when big steps are taken in Rojava, when big gains and successes are achieved, the attacks increase. There is a federal region in Bashur, and it is clear that the AKP government does not accept that. They even think they can’t accept if there is a Kurd in South Africa.

The Turkish state attacked civilians with jets, tanks and artilleries. Hundreds of civilians from Bashur were wounded in airstrikes and artillery fire, many were left homeless, many suffered burns, and many lost their lives. The silence on this matter is unacceptable. International states should have had a stance and reaction too. Right now, the AKP is 30 km into Bashur’s lands. There is silence all around in the face of these violations. International countries need to tell Turkey to stop the civilian massacres and violations. The US and Baghdad governments should do something. Bashure Kurdistan is part of Iraq. They in particular should put a stop to this.

This is a war against Kurds. Hundreds of Kurds are martyred, their houses burned down. There should be no more silence for Kurds being targeted. In all parts, it is imperative that Kurds unite in all matters, political, military and everything else. Only through that can the AKP’s policies can be voided and this war stopped.”

TELO: “THEY CAN’T END PKK, IT GROWS EVERY DAY”

Kurdistan Liberal Party Chair Ferhat Telo: “The Turkish state has been attacking Kurdistan and its cities for years. They destroyed cities in Rojava and Bakur. They destroyed Cizre, Diyarbakir, Nusaybin and many others. Recently, our civilian people in cities and villages in Bashur have been targeted by the Turkish state as they went about their daily lives. They cite the PKK freedom movement as an excuse. They have been saying they will end PKK this year for sure, for forty years. But the PKK grew every day, prevailed and the movement and the people in it got stronger. These attacks show that the Turkish state is in a bind. The recent attacks show that a fascist Turkey led by Erdogan who declared himself an Ottoman sultan is in chaos and that is the reason behind these problems and the attacks against civilian areas. Of course in these attacks, fighters who are trying to defend the people are martyred too. We as the Liberal Party condemn the current attacks by the AKP government in the person of Erdogan. Theirs is an enemy’s stance and that is how we see it.”

“THEY SUPPORT THE ATTACKS WITH THEIR SILENCE”

We see that the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Iraqi government and the Arab League are silent, and this is unacceptable. There are two messages here: Erdogan intensifies his concept of attacking civilian populations, and that they knowingly or unknowingly support the war with their silence.

The Kurdistan Regional Administration should issue a condemnation message in the name of the Kurdistan Parliament, even if it is not under this name. They should speak up. They should tell the United Nations how they think. International powers meet daily with the US, Russia and Europe, with the Baghdad government, and these things need to be discussed.

Today Kurdish delegations from Rojava went to Bashur to visit all Kurdistan movements. The purpose of that is to allow Kurds to have a united voice. At the same time Turkey continues to bomb these areas. Our people die as a result, their homes are damaged. All media organs and the public should let the whole world know because that is what is expected of political parties.”
