KDP prevented youth to attend 2nd Middle East Youth Conference

The Middle East Youth Initiative denounced the KDP preventing the young members from crossing into Rojava.

The KDP prevented a delegation of young people to go to Kobanê to attend the Second Middle East Youth Conference on 20 February.

The delegation consisting of members of different organizations gathered in Southern Kurdistan at the Sêmalka Border Gate, and on the way, was stopped by the KDP forces that wanted to check their identity cards.

At the border crossing the KDP forces made a statement that young people would not be allowed to cross.

Members of the Middle East Youth Initiative in Rojava were waiting for the delegation and immediately made a statement to respond to the situation.

“The Middle East Youth Initiative, - said Arjin Melek - invited members from the whole Middle Eastern to participate to this conference. Many youth organizations announced that they would attend the conference. There is only one border crossing to Rojava and it is Sêmalka between South Kurdistan and Rojava.”

The KDP, said the statement, “which is under the control of the occupying Turkish state, has demonstrated how undemocratic it is to all Middle Eastern youth. We condemn this decision. This decision won't affect our conference. If dictators do not want us to come side by side physically, our spirit is always one.”
