Education program for men on women's rights and gender equality

In the northern Syrian city of Kobanê, the Women's Association Kongreya Star has launched an education program for men. The men receive instruction on women's rights and gender equality.

The Şehîd (Martyr) Şilan Kobanê Women’s Academy affiliated to the Euphrates Region Administration of Kongreya Star, the umbrella organization of the Kurdish women's movement in Rojava, has launched a two-week education program for men.

For the past week, 18 men holding various positions in the committees under the Autonomous Administration of  Euphrates Region have been receiving instruction on women's rights and gender equality. The men are being taught by activists of the women's movement at the "Şehîd Şîlan" academy in the northern Syrian canton capital Kobanê.

Kongreya Star's 14-day educational program also includes the topics of free co-existence, the role of women in society and the history of the women's liberation struggle. In addition, the men are enlightened about social sexism.

“A free co-existence can only be achieved in a conscious, free and democratic society where the equality of women and men is ensured,” said Felek Yûsiv, a member of the board of the Şehîd Şîlan Academy.

Yûsiv added that; "We are trying to achieve this goal with the program we have initiated for men."
