Yüksekdağ: The isolation of Öcalan is an obstacle to solutions

Former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Figen Yüksekdağ, said the isolation imposed on the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan is a serious obstacle to resolving the main problems in Turkey.

In an article for Gazete Duvar newspaper, the jailed former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Figen Yüksekdağ criticized the isolation imposed on the Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali Prison.

Yüksekdağ said the policy of the Kurds and the democratic forces has stressed for years that isolation is a major obstacle to the solution of problems in the country and added: "This message, which we repeat constantly has not been understood and caused further damage to Turkey and to the people every year and every day.”

Speaking of indefinite hunger strikes, Yüksekdağ explained that Leyla Güven had taken the first step as a leading Kurdish female politician. She pointed out that Leyla Güven became the voice of life and humanity in the face of genocide.

The fundamental problems in Turkey will not be solved as long as the isolation continues, Yüksekdağ said, as isolation is not only the problem of the Kurds, but Turkey's problem in general.

Yüksekdağ stressed that the opportunity to solve major problems is still available but is ignored by the Turkish state.

She concluded by saying: "It is very important that all especially the socialist and pro-labor leftist circles undertake responsibility in such a process and the West (of Turkey) embrace the hunger strike action against isolation.”
