World Resistance Day for Rojava celebrated in Melbourne

Demonstrators called for the trial of Erdoğan as a war criminal.

November 2nd World Resistance Day for Rojava has been celebrated in Melbourne city of Australia.

Answering the call of RiseUp4Rojava Committee, Kurds and their friends held a demonstration and rally and expressed their solidarity with the resistance against Turkish genocidal campaign seeking to invade North and East Syria. The demonstration was also joined by Senator Janet Rice of the Greens party, history professor John Tully and many other Australian friends of the Kurds. Representatives of socialist and Alevi institutions from Turkey also took part in the demo.

The crowd marched from the State Library to the Federation centre chanting slogans that condemned Turkey’s genocidal aggression and commended the resistance against it.

Speaking before the march, Senator Janet Rice expressed their support and solidarity with the Kurdish people and said that they were working on a new motion for the imposition of an embargo on Turkey.

Prof. John Tully also addressed the crowd during the rally and called on the Australian government to take concrete steps against Turkish occupation of Rojava instead of solely issuing statements and condemnation. Tully said that Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan must be brought to trial as a war criminal.

TEV-DEM Executive Board Member Aldar Xelil addressed the crowd on phone and said that the demonstrations abroad gave great morale to Rojava.
