Will AKP perpetuate the State of Emergency?

Pro-AKP columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote that the State of Emergency could be perpetuated, and a 30-point ‘Anti-Terror Law is being worked on to this end.

The State of Emergency (OHAL) in Turkey, in effect since the failed coup of 15 July 2016, is expected to be lifted but only to be replaced by a 30-point ‘Anti-Terror Law’.

Pro-AKP columnist Abdulkadir Selvi for Hürriyet Daily wrote that the draft will be debated in the Parliament next week. In his article titled “Expectations from the new ministers”, Selvi said; “The new period will start with a favorable beginning with the removal of OHAL. As the FETÖ and PKK danger remains and the operations in Syria and Iraq continue, the aim is to not leave a legal gap. In this scope, a 30-point Anti-Terror Package is set to be introduced.”

Pointing out the possibility of debates over “continued OHAL” in the coming period, Selvi wrote that; “Also in France, similar arrangements were made while OHAL was removed. I do not know if there will be further arrangements once normalization is ensured. However, provisions like partial OHAL, temporary curfew, prohibition of meetings and demonstrations for security reasons and extension of period of detention will be introduced. The 30-point draft is expected to be submitted to the Parliament on Wednesday, and to be passed into law next week.”
