"We are on hunger strike for we love life enough to die for it"

Şiş said: “Maybe we will die at the end of this action, but what we really need to ask is if it is really a free and equal life the one we are living.”

The London Kurdistan Solidarity Group and the Anarchist Plan C promoted a panel called "Revolutionary Internationalism and the Future of the Northern Syrian Federation".

The panel was attended by Peruvian revolutionary Hugo Blanco and academic-writer Derek Wall.

Kurdish activist Ilhan Şiş, who has been on hunger strike for 75 days in the city of Newport, Wales, demanding the end of the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, sent a message to the panel.

Like all hunger strike activists, he reiterated his intention to continue his fast and added: “We are on hunger strike because we love life so much that we are ready to die for it."

Şiş added: “Maybe we will die at the end of this action, but what we really need to ask is if it is really a free and equal life the one we are living.”

Şiş also said that although a big part of Kurds living in Britain are engaged in one way or another with the hunger strike action, there is another section of Kurds who continued with their routine life in spite of the fascism in Kurdistan. Indeed, Şiş said that what hurts him is “not hunger but this insensitivity.”

"The struggle should be international"

Stating that the Kurdish people’s problem of freedom is not only a problem concerning Kurds, Ilhan Şiş reminded that the roots of the Kurdish question are to be found in the treaties that European imperialist states made fascist governments in the Middle East sign 100 years ago.

Şiş stressed that: “Now that this genocidal fascist capitalist system is international, then the revolutionary socialist struggle to be given against it must also be international.”

The hunger striker ended his remarks by saying that anyone who calls himself socialist, anarchist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist, should fight shoulder to shoulder with the Kurdish people, wherever he is.
