Two Kurdish activists on indefinite hunger strike in Germany

Kurdish hunger strike resistance demanding an end to the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, is growing.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP MP for Hakkari, Leyla Güven, launched an indefinite hunger strike in Amed prison on November 8, 2018 to demand an end to the aggravated isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. The Kurdish politician, released from jail on day 79 of her hunger strike, continues her protest at her home in Amed (Diyarbakır).

Güven’s action has inspired nearly 300 prisoners in Turkey and North Kurdistan as well as dozens of Kurdish activists who joined the indefinite hunger strike resistance throughout the world voicing the same demand.

A group of Kurds living in Kassel and neighboring cities launched an indefinite and alternating hunger strike last week to protest the isolation of Öcalan and show solidarity with the resistance led by Leyla Guven.

The first group of hunger strikers included Dilan Baysal, Imam Ali Ates, Omer Bagdur and Cemal Kobane.

Two of the hunger strike activists, Ömer Bağdur and Cemal Kobanê have announced that they turned their fast into an indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike on Monday, February 4th.

Ömer Bağdur said; “We as Kurds wanted to be a part of this resistance. Every patriotic Kurd should support this resistance for leader Öcalan.”
