Turkish state TV TRT has banned 208 songs –142 in Turkish and 66 in Kurdish- from broadcast after a committee found the lyrics inappropriate.

Kurdish classic folk singers Karapete Xaco, Mihemed Sexo were banned along with Turkish pop stars such as Sıla, Demet Akalın, Bengü and Koray Avcı from broadcast in TRT. Most of the songs were banned for inappropriate lyrics while Kurdish songs are banned for political content.

Famous Kurdish song “Ay lê Gulê – Oh rose!” is among the banned songs list of TRT. Here are the lyrics of the song:

“Oh rose !
Oh rose, you are my rose
You're the flavor of my heart
I don't give my rose for wealth
I would die for my rose

My rose is green, red and yellow
The sign of the Flag is on itself
Now, the color is white and ore
It is my sweet promise

Your color is very beautiful
The nightingale moans for you
I don't want to see your current posture
You are my purpose and destiny

The cruel says he won't give the rose
I'll take it with my wrist power
With my power with my strength
I'll take my freedom by fight

I'm son of your uncle
You are full of my praises
I come to help for your fight
My blood is my debt for you”
