Turkish army uses its base in Amediyah to attack HPG

Turkish army opened artillery fire to HPG positions in Metina mountain from its base in Amediyah in Southern Kurdistan.

According to Roj News Agency, HPG positions in Metina mountains was bombed by Turkish forces based in Southern Kurdistan.

The base near Amediyah, a district of Duhok province, was set up in 1995 under an agreement between Turkey and Kurdistan Democratic Party. It was used as a command centre by the Turkish army in operations against Kurdish guerrillas.

Today is the first time since the 1990s, that the Turkish soldiers in the base engaged in a direct military confrontation.

In 2008, Turkish tanks, which were being deployed to join an operation against HPG, were blocked by local residents’ protest.
