Turkey arrests Belgian citizen in Mersin

Arrest warrants were issued against two out of eleven people detained in Erzurum and Mersin. One of those jailed is a Belgian citizen.

In the northern Kurdistan province of Erzurum, a total of ten people charged with social media contributions were arrested during morning raids at various locations. Baki Özdemir, one of the detainees, was issued an arrest warrant for "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization" and “insulting the President”.

In the southern province of Mersin, Belgian citizen Zerif Y. was detained on October 2, accused of “membership in a terrorist organization”. Zerif Y. was remanded in custody on Friday.
