Treatment of prisoners who were on hunger strike continues

Prisoners who called off the hunger strike responding to the message by Öcalan need to be treated in hospital.

HDP Siirt deputy Meral Danış Beştaş said that she talked to all prison directors in the Central Anatolia Region and that the algorithms published by TTB were transmitted to the prisons.

Noting that there are no serious problems reported in many prisons in the Central Anatolia Region, Beştaş added: “The prison administrations try to treat prisoners in prison infirmaries. However they should be referred to a full-equipped hospital. It is important to act quickly in order to prevent any further damage. We are engaged at ministerial level. We expect prisoners in serious conditions to be treated adequately.”

Siverek

One of the 6 hunger strikers in Siverek T-type prison, Urfa, suffered a pretty severe injury on his head when he was taken to hospital handcuffed and with hands behind his back and fell. He had three stitches. 

Lawyer Lezgin Oktay said that the prisoners were handcuffed while they were brought to the emergency unit of the hospital.

He added that the hospital had not been prepared before the arrival of the prisoners and because of the absence of specialist doctors when they eventually arrived, the first intervention was made by the general practitioner.

Oktay said that a prisoner fell in love with the prisoner while the blood sample was taken from the prisoners. Hunting. Oktay confirmed that one of the prisoners fainted before he was taken blood. In the fall he hit his head and was given three stitches. 

Following the incident, a discussion erupted between the prisoners and the gendarmery and in the end the prisoners were taken the handcuffs off. 

When the specialist doctor arrived he told the lawyer that 7 prisoners had already been brought to the hospital earlier on Monday morning but were sent back to prison. 

Oktay stated that 26 prisoners were on hunger strike in that prison and that 13 prisoners who were not admitted to the hospital were treated in prison.

Elazığ

Three prisoners in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2, Cengaver Aykul, Serkan Eren and Yasin Güngör, were reported vomiting blood after they called off the hunger strike responding to the message by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The prison administration did not send the prisoners to hospital and instead said they were being treated in prison. However this proved not to be the case. 

HDP Bingol MP Erdal Aydemir talked to the prison director who told him treatment were being given, but this was not true. A part from the three prisoners vomiting blood, it was stated that Remziye Akdag, prisoner in the women's ward, was also in a serious situation.

Samsun

In Samsun Vezirköprü M Type Closed Prison, two prisoners who were on hunger strike were referred to hospital and received treatment under doctor supervision. 

Kırıkkale

In Kırıkkale Prison, three prisoners from the first group of hunger strikers who were in serious condition were transferred to the hospital and then back to prison. Two of the prisoners were  referred to the hospital again. It was recorded that the prisoners started to receive serum.

Tokat

The prisoners who were on hunger strikes in Tokat Prison were told that only blood pressure measurements were going to be taken and were not referred to hospital. The treatment was given in the prison infirmary.

Karabuk

The prisoners in Karabük T-Type Closed Prison were also examined at the infirmary of the jail. 

Kayseri

All female prisoners who were on hunger strike in Kayseri Bünyan Women's Closed Prison were referred to hospital; however, they were taken to prison again after the examinations.

Çankırı

Six prisoners on hunger strike in Çankırı E Type Closed Prison were treated in the prison infirmary.

Eskişehir

Six prisoners in Eskişehir H-Type Closed Prison were referred to the hospital.

Ankara

It was stated that 4 women were treated in Sincan Women's Closed Prison and a second group would also be treated there.
