Thousands rally on World Rojava Day in Cologne

On the occasion of the global resistance day for Rojava, a demonstration also took place in Cologne.

As in numerous other cities worldwide, a demonstration took place in Cologne city of Germany on the occasion of the "World Rojava Day". The Kurdish federation MED-Fed, the Kurdish women's movement YJK-E and the platform "Defend Rojava" had called for the protest action against the Turkish invasion of Northern Syria. The march, in which a twenty-meter-long yellow-red-green flag and numerous flags of the YPG/YPJ were unfurled, continued from Cologne Cathedral to Neumarkt.

Kurdish citizens from Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ain) in Northern Syria, one of the primary targets of the Turkish occupation, also attended the demonstration. These people from Rojava said that most people fled the city and the surrounding villages due to the attacks and atrocities of the invasion troops.

In speeches at the final rally, the progressive social model in Rojava, based on the three pillars of grassroots democracy, women's liberation and ecology, was pointed out. "This is why we defend and claim Rojava," said Lina of the Cologne Defend Rojava Committee.

The rally ended with the performance of Kurdish musician Diyar.
