Thousands of people have started to gather at the Newroz grounds in Van city starting from early morning hours to welcome the Kurdish New Year, March 21st.

This year’s Newroz celebration is taking place under the motto “We will break isolation and will definitely win”.

Dressed in traditional clothes, people of Van are flocking to the area where the celebration will start soon, chanting 'Biji berxwedena zindanen’ [Long live the prison resistance].

Sezai Temelli, co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), will attend the celebration in Van and address the people of the city.
