As in dozens of other European cities, a demonstration of solidarity with Rojava took place in Basel today. The central demonstration was attended by thousands of people from very different spectrums of the Swiss political landscape.

People from other cities arrived at the Theaterplatz starting from the early morning hours. They carried banners with the inscriptions "Rise up for Rojava", "Defend Rojava" and on the occasion of yesterday's World Kobanê Day "Long live the resistance of Kobanê". In addition, flags of the YPJ, YPG and PKK as well as pictures of the Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan were carried along.

During the march to Horburgstraße the participants chanted "Everywhere is Rojava, everywhere is resistance" and "Terrorist Erdoğan". Fireworks were lit and leaflets distributed.

For the evening a number of further activities against the Turkish occupation of Rojava were announced.
