The US multiplies deportation of Central Americans

According to recent figures published by the Immigration Institute of Mexico (INM), the number of Central Americans deported to Mexico from the United States, between January and July of this year, amounts to 18,503.

According to the new immigration policy implemented by President Donald Trump, the deportees, who ask for asylum in the US, must wait for the response to their request outside the North American territory.

The spectacular increase in deportations since 27 May, the date on which an agreement on the subject was signed between the US and Mexican governments is striking .

The agreement was signed under threat of strong and immediate economic sanctions against Mexico.

If until May the number of deported migrants was 7,623, in only two months the number skyrocketed to 15,079. An exponential rate of growth that should increase substantially from this Sunday, given that Donald Trump personally confirmed this week the start of massive raids of undocumented immigrants, who should be deported.

All this situation occurs in the meddle of numerous documented complaints about the inhuman and humiliating conditions in which many people are detained by the US immigration service, including hundreds of minors and women.

While similar accusations, in this case referred to Mexico, speak of a not very different situation as to the conditions of detention of deportees from the US, and of Central Americans who are heading to the US with the hope to enter that country.

The figures just published clarify the magnitude and characteristics of the forced agreement accepted by Mexico, which was not made public, by the Government of Antonio Manuel López Obrador, more than in general lines.
