TEV-DEM commended HDP success in elections

TEV-DEM warned of new dangers after Erdogan is confirmed in power

The Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) Executive Board congratulated the HDP for the successful results in the 24 June elections.

In a written statement, TEV-DEM reiterated that the fact that the AKP has confirmed is power in

Turkey means the loss of peace and security in the region.
Indeed this situation, said TEV-DEM, did not begin on Sunday 24 June, as it goes back to many years ago.

TEV-DEM pointed out that for the past seven years Turkey has provided support to terrorist groups in Syria thus jeopardising both the security of Syria and Turkey and dragging both countries into an irrevocable war.

Pointing out that the elections in Turkey and Kurdistan have been contested under the State of Emergency and in presence of heavy repression, arrests and attacks especially on the HDP, TEV-DEM said: “It is increasingly concerning to see that indeed Erdogan remained in power in Turkey. Erdogan will continue to pursue policies of annihilation and extermination in the region following the elections”.

The statement added: “The immoral attacks against humanity seen in Afrin could seriously being spread all over Syria by Erdogan."

Despite being forced to run an electoral campaign under all kind of pressure and attacks, the fact that the HDP has overcome the threshold is no doubt a great and important achievement.

"This success - said TEV-DEM - is a strong message from the HDP to the AKP government and Erdogan. Despite all attacks people showed that they won’t give in and succumb. This is a success of the people's will.”
