Tarragona council condemned Turkish attack on Kurds

The Board of Spokespersons of the City Council of Tarragona has agreed to publicly reject the military offensive that is taking place in the Kurdish region of Rojava.

In a statement Tarragona Council said: "On Wednesday, 9 October 2019, the Turkish state began a military offensive against Rojava after the United States withdrew its troops from the area.

The Kurds have defeated ISIS but now the US has left the Kurds exposed to an army much more powerful than theirs and that it intends to exterminate them. From Tarragona we reject this attack while defending peace in the area, built on respect for the people and people."

The statement recalled that "on 18 December 2015, Tarragona City Council approved a motion to initiate the contacts and procedures for twinning with the Kurdish municipality of Kobane.

This was an initiative , defended by all the municipal groups, that tried to recognize this municipality of the Kurdish region of Rojava.

On 26 February 2018, the Plenary Session of the City Council of Tarragona reiterated this desire to support the Kurdish people against the attack launched by the Turkish army against the Kurdish region of Afrin."
