Swiss MPs: “Don’t stay silent against Turkey”

Three Swiss MPs submitted an inquiry to the Switzerland Federal Parliament on the Turkish state’s invasion attacks against Afrin and demanded Switzerland take action.

As the Turkish state and their allied gangs continue their invasion attacks against Afrin, international protests against them continue to grow. Switzerland’s Socialist Party (SP) Federal MPs Carlo Sommaruga, Manuel Tornare and Laurence Rielle Fehlmann submitted an inquiry to the Switzerland Federal Parliament on the Turkish state’s invasion attacks against Afrin and demanded Switzerland take action.

TORNARE: “TURKEY SHOCKED THE CIVILIZED WORLD WITH THEIR INVASION ATTEMPT”

In the inquiry he submitted to the Federal Parliament, MP Manuel Tornare said, “The Turkish state shocked the civilized world with the invasion attempt they launched against Afrin. With this invasion attempt, Turkey disregarded international law and in a sense challenged the international public, including Switzerland,” and asked the Federal Parliament what their stance will be in the face of this situation.

Tornare demanded that the free trade agreement between Switzerland and Turkey not be renewed in the face of the invasion attempt against Afrin, and stressed that Switzerland should warn the Turkish state to respect international law.

FEHLMANN: “ERDOĞAN IS TARGETING THOSE WHO PROTEST THE INVASION”

In his inquiry to the Federal Parliament, MP Laurence Rielle Fehlmann pointed out the Turkish state’s invasion attempt against Afrin and stated that Erdoğan increases pressure against people protesting this invasion within the country and is targeting these people. Fehlmann asked what stance the Switzerland Federal Council will take in the face of this approach by the Turkish state, and pointed out that the Turkish state continues to target politicians and unionists who fled oppression and sought refuge in Europe and Switzerland.

Fehlmann demanded that Switzerland not stay silent against the incidents and the Turkish state.

SOMMARUGA: “TURKEY’S TRANS-BORDER DEMANDS MUST BE STOPPED”

MP Carlo Sommaruga submitted inquiries about PYD Foreign Relations Spokesperson Saleh Muslim’s detention in Czechia and the month-long ceasefire resolution by the United Nations Security Council.

In the inquiries, Sommaruga said: “Kurdish politician Saleh Muslim’s detention in Czechia is a striking example of the Turkish state and Erdoğan politicizing international arrest warrants,” and stated that these trans-border demands of the Turkish state must urgently be stopped.

“What has Switzerland done or what will Switzerland do about this arrest within the Schengen zone?” asked Sommaruga and demanded that the Switzerland Federal Council play a role in the matter.

“SWITZERLAND MUST TAKE ACTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF CIVILIANS IN AFRIN”

Sommaruga submitted another inquiry to the parliament on the 30-day Syria-wide ceasefire resolution by the UN Security Council and asked the Switzerland Federal Council what their role will be for the implementation of this resolution.

In the inquiry Sommaruga pointed out that international law is being defied in Afrin and Eastern Ghouta and stated that the Swiss government should take an active role in protecting civilians in Afrin and Eastern Ghouta.
