Heads of Swedish political parties and civil society organizations have expressed their solidarity with Leyla Guven and other activists who have launched an indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike campaign to protest the strict isolation imposed upon the Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Ocalan.

In a video statement, the Left Party’s chancellor in Uppsala region, Neil Ormerod, board member of the International Forum of the Left Party, Yekbun Alp, head of Kurdistan Solidarity Committee, Benny Gustafsson have asked for the demands of Leyla Guven and other prisoners to be met.

‘Ocalan is the key to solution in Turkey’

“Leyla Guven has devoted her life to human rights, democracy and peace; the Turkish state should immediately remove the isolation of Ocalan who is the key to peace in Turkey,” said Yekbun Alp.

“Guven’s demands are our demands, we will never be silent in the face of injustice. It is critical that we speak up for democracy, human rights and peace,” Alp added.

Swedish Left Party’s chancellor in Uppsala region, Neil Ormerod stated that Leyla Guven’s life was at risk, the Turkish state should remove Ocalan’s isolation in order for Leyla Guven’s hunger strike to end.

Head of Kurdistan Solidarity Committee, Benny Gustafsson emphasized that they support the demands of Leyla Guven and other political prisoners, warning that Guven’s life was at risk. Gustafsson condemned the Turkish state’s war policies, and expressed solidarity with Leyla Guven’s struggle.
