Solidarity message to Leyla Güven from Uppsala council

Smedberg called on Sweden and the European Union to put pressure on Turkey: “We should never allow human rights violations, nor crimes carried out by a State.”

Tobias Smedberg from the Uppsala Council expressed his solidarity with the Kurdish people and Öcalan and his support to the hunger strikers, starting from Leyla Güven.

Kurds all over the world are issuing a call for human rights and justice, said Smedberg adding: “Kurds’ call has reached Uppsala. Currently our Left Party sister party, the HDP has thousands of its members in prison in Turkey, jailed by a cruel regime that is turning increasingly authoritarian.”

Smedberg said that politicians and HDP members have committed no crime and they are detained for being Kurds.

Leyla Güven, said Smedberg, is demanding the end of isolation against Öcalan and the end of oppression against the Kurdish people.

Smedberg called on Sweden and the European Union to put pressure on Turkey: “We should never allow human rights violations, nor crimes carried out by a State.”

Smedberg ended his remarks by reiterating his and the Left Party’s solidarity with Güven, Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish people.
