Russia hopes Kremlin and Washington will in time talk again

Lavrov reiterated that the accusation against Bashar al-Assad that indeed it was the Syrian government that had used chemical weapons in Duma on April 7 was "fake".

"Over time, we hope to have a dialogue with our American colleagues after their own internal problems are solved, despite the damages that our bilateral relations have suffered because of Washington," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

Speaking to the BBC, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, on the other hand, said relations with the West were worse than the Cold War.

"The current situation is very dangerous," Lavrov said, reacting to the US, Britain and France air strikes against Syria.
