Repression and attacks against HDP continue

While Van city was put under blockade before the Erdoğan rally, more repression and attacks against the HDP were recorded in Osmaniye, Ağrı and Erzurum.

The mainly Kurdish city of Van, at the border with Iran, is facing a de facto state of siege before the arrival of Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan who will join an election meeting in the city.

All the main streets and avenues have been blockaded by the police with armored vehicles, and side streets with trucks loaded with sand.

In the meantime, it grabs attention that HDP flags in the city have been torn down and helicopter activity is taking place.

OSMANİYE

The HDP election Office in Karaboyun neighborhood of Osmaniye was targeted in an armed attack early Tuesday morning. 11 bullets hit the office which suffered material damage.

HDP Osmaniye provincial branch co-chair said; “We will give the best response on June 24.”

AĞRI

After their performance at the HDP rally in Patnos district of Ağrı on Monday, music band Rosîda’s soloist Jiyan and presenter Ali Ümran Daşkaya were taken into custody.

Jiyan was reportedly detained on the grounds of a “Kurdistan” word in the lyrics of a song they sang, and Daşkaya for using the word “martyrs of democracy” and he was reportedly battered under custody.

ERZURUM

The HDP MP candidate presentation billboards in Palandöken district of Erzurum were all torn down this morning. HDP Erzurum MP candidate Mehmet Kasım Fırat said they are faced with increasing pressures every day.
