Red Cross Committee: We have sent a humanitarian convoy to Afrin

The International Red Cross Committee announced that for the first time they have sent a humanitarian aid convoy to Afrin.

Iolanda Jaquement gave the statement in Geneva in the name of the Red Cross Committee and said: “The International Red Cross Committee and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent have come to an agreement this year for the first time to send a humanitarian aid convoy to the region.”

According to the Red Cross Committee, the aid convoy includes fundamental necessities for the 50.000 people displaced from their homes.

Turkish invasion forces launched their attacks against Afrin on January 20 in an alliance with gangs like ISIS and Al Qaeda, and the attacks have resulted in the loss of some 200 civilian lives. There are dozens of children among these civilians.

The United Nations Security Council issued a resolution for a 30-day ceasefire for the whole of Syria, but the Turkish state has not stopped their attacks. The UN, the US, the EU and France have since issued statements that the ceasefire does include Afrin as well.
