Protests against isolation in Zurich and Lausanne

Zurich and Lausanne joined series of silent demonstrations held around Europe at the weekend.

Kurdish activists have promoted action to protest the silence of the European institution on the hunger strike resistance demanding the end of isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The hunger strike resistance was launched by DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven and was joined by thousands of prisoners and activists in Europe, Kurdistan, Turkey and Canada.

Protests against isolation were organised in Zurich and Lausanne. 

March and meeting in Zurich

The Solidarity with the Hunger Strikes Platform promoted an action in Helvetiaplatz in Zurich. The action began with a minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for the revolution and freedom. 

The opening speech was delivered by the Platform and after Swiss Green Party (Grüne) co-chair and MP Katharina Prelicz-Huber addressed the demonstrators. 

Prelicz-Huber said that the Greens are in solidarity with all hunger strikers beginning with HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven and added that the Turkish state should initiate peace talks taking into account the demands of the Kurdish side. 

Prelicz-Huber also drew attention to the violations of the AKP / MHP fascism against all opposition groups, especially the Kurdish people and civil society organizations.

The MP ended her remarks saying that the demands of the hunger strikers should be accepted.

Greens MP Marco Denoth also greeted the action of the hunger strikers saying that isolation should be lifted as rightfully demand the Kurdish people.

Lausanne

A silent action was organised in Lausanne in front of the Laurent Church to protest the silence of the European countries and in solidarity with the hunger strike resistance demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

A letter sent by hunger striker Mehmet Ali Koçak was read at the demonstration.
