Prisoners’ mothers: Our children are not treated

Mothers of political prisoners who ended their hunger strikes and death fasts protested the refusal of treatment for their children in front of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate.

A protest was held in front of the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate in Cemberlitas against the refusal of treatment for political prisoners who ended their hunger strikes and death fasts in victory. HDP MP Zuleyha Gulum and OHD member Lawyer Sinan Zincir also supported the demonstration led by the mothers of prisoners. The mothers attended the demonstration with white scarves and spoke of the duties of the Ministries of Health and Justice.

“THEY ARE REFUSED TREATMENT, HELD STANDING UNTIL THE MORNING”

Zeynep Calihan, mother of political prisoner Hatice Calihan who ended her hunger strike she had been on since March 1 in the Sakran Prison, spoke in the demonstration held under police blockade and said their children are being refused treatment: “On Monday, I went to visit my daughter. It was bad. They were taken to the doctor’s on Sunday, but were kept standing until the morning. They are not receiving decent treatment. They were given lentil soup and a potato dish and it affected them very badly. They were sent back to prison.

Mother Hazal Tas gave a speech in Kurdish and said her son Ismet Tas and his friends in the Tekirdag Type F Prison are not receiving any treatment. Tas said she has been talking with her son on the phone for the last 2 months because of a visitation ban, and that her son told her they were not receiving any treatment on one of their phone calls.
